Founder and CEO

Dr Adriano Cefai

Adriano Cefai is the visionary leader and founder of Fides Fiduciary Limited a prominent Maltese corporate services provider. With a passion for excellence and a keen understanding of the intricate dynamics of the business landscape, Adriano has steered the company to remarkable success.

Professional Journey:
Adriano’s journey in the corporate services sector began nearly two decades ago. Armed with a strong educational background in business and law, he quickly rose through the ranks, gaining invaluable experience through the family law firm and in navigating the complexities of corporate compliance, financial planning, and strategic management.
Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, Adriano founded Fides with a clear vision – to redefine corporate services in Malta by providing bespoke solutions tailored to each client’s unique needs.

Director and Head of Legal

Dr. Kurt Catania

Dr. Kurt Catania is a seasoned corporate lawyer and dynamic leader with a distinguished career at the intersection of law and finance. Currently serving as a Director of Fides Services Limited and Fides Fiduciary Limited in Malta, Dr. Catania brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his multifaceted role.

Dr. Catania earned his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from the University of Malta, where he displayed a keen interest in corporate law. He further pursued his passion for the legal field by obtaining a Master of Laws (LL.M.) with a specialization in Corporate and Commercial Law from a prestigious European university.

With over fifteen years of legal practice, Dr. Catania has built a profound reputation as a corporate lawyer in Malta through which he has fostered skills in corporate governance, immigration, contract law, and regulatory compliance.

Dr. Catania is specializing in investment migration services, renowned for his expertise in navigating the intricate legal landscape of Malta. With a comprehensive understanding of immigration laws and a keen eye for international investment, Dr. Catania has established himself as a trusted advisor in the field.

His commitment to excellence and client-focused approach quickly propelled him to leadership roles within the firm. His ability to navigate the intricate legal landscape of financial services has garnered him the respect of peers and clients alike.

MLRO and Compliance Officer

Dr. Maria Grech

Dr. Maria Grech has obtained her Doctor of Laws from the UOM in 2010 and thereafter was admitted to the Malta Bar in February 2011, and has been a member of the Chamber of Advocates since. She is also a member of the Institute for Financial Services Practitioners (IFSP), from which body she earned a Foundation Certificate in Trusts Law and Management.

Maria’s career at Fides started from the inception of Fides, assisting clients in corporate and trust law matters. Later on, she specialised in AML/CFT Compliance and was appointed Compliance Officer of the Fides Group. As a seasoned legal professional, with a keen interest in AML & Regulatory Compliance as well as corporate governance, she was entrusted with role of Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) of Fides Fiduciary Limited since 2022.

As the MLRO of Fides, Maria plays a pivotal role in ensuring the Company’s adherence to the highest standards of regulatory compliance. With a strong educational background in AML, Maria brings a deep understanding of the complex regulatory landscape governing Trustees and CSPs. As MLRO, Maria is responsible for overseeing the company’s AML/CFT framework. She collaborates closely with the Regulatory Authorities in Malta, conducts risk assessments, whilst ensuring that the company’s policies and procedures align with the ever-evolving regulatory landscape. She has also recently obtained her AML Certificate issued by the Institute for Financial Services Practitioners (IFSP).

As the MLRO and Compliance Officer of Fides, Maria contributes significantly to the company’s commitment to regulatory compliance and integrity in financial services. She is committed to upholding the highest regulatory standards in anti-money laundering practices, by developing and implementing robust AML programs, enhancing internal controls, and fostering a culture of compliance within Fides.

Financial Controller

Mr. Sam Zerafa

Sam started his accountancy profession at the age of 18 when he enrolled in ACCA and started working for one of the Big 4 firms in Malta. After graduating he furthered his career working with leading corporate service providers both in Malta and overseas.

He started in the auditing sector, where he perfected his skills in ensuring financial compliance and accuracy. Sam’s commitment to excellence led him to transition into the corporate service domain. With over 19 years of hands-on experience in financial management, Sam has become a formidable part of the of the firm.

As the Financial Controller, Sam is entrusted with overseeing the financial health of the organization, implementing strategic financial planning and ensuring compliance with both local and international regulations and external parties.

Sam’s role extends beyond traditional financial responsibilities; he actively collaborates with cross-functional teams to drive business growth and enhance operational efficiency. His ability to translate financial data into actionable insights empowers decision-makers within the organization.

In addition to his professional pursuits, Sam is a proactive advocate for continuous learning and professional development. He stays abreast of the latest software and innovation in financial management, contributing to the forward-thinking culture of the corporate service provider.

Corporate Lawyer

Dr. Valentina Sapienza

Background 

Dr. Valentina Sapienza holds the position of corporate lawyer being entrusted with a portfolio of clients for which she attends to all corporate matters ranging from the incorporations, share transfers, allotments, corporate restructuring, continuation of companies in Malta and abroad and other corporate related matters.

Valentina has assisted both local and international clients on a broad range of legal matters falling within the remit of the Companies Act, Trusts and Trustees Act and other local legislation/regulations including employment related matters. Valentina is also regularly involved with audits and inspections carried out by the Regulatory Authorities, being the focal point of all dealings with the Malta Business Registry.

Education 

Valentina graduated from the University of Malta with a Bachelor of Laws degree and a Masters of Advocacy degree. She then went on to obtain the warrant to practice law in Malta which was granted to her in 2018. Since then, she has attended numerous courses to keep abreast of developments and changes to local regulations including the ILS Company Law course, GDPR training course and Amendments to the CSP Act.
